How do I make my prom dress look less like a wedding dress?

I purchased my prom dress from the wedding section of the store, and I’m worried that it will look like a a wedding dress (probably because it is). So I need help accessorizing it so that it looks neither too wedding-ish nor too juvenile.

I would definitely go for chunky, colored/colorful jewelry that complements (but doesn’t match) in style.

To keep it from looking juvenile, I would also simplify the jewelry — that is, do a big necklace and stud earrings or huge earrings and no necklace.

I think the trick is really to introduce color and not be too matchy matchy in style (no “shimmery rhinestone leaves”).
