Behind Fashion Trends is a Woman
An old maxim which says that “Behind every successful man is a woman” is becoming accurate in almost all aspect of life. Not so about the thing about what a woman can do but when you look at these great women of fashion, you will definitely come into an agreement with this adage. Consequently even without the presence of a man there are just women who can carry the glamour and the prestige just by wearing the right ensemble that brings out their attitude, elegance and beauty even in workwear uniforms. Here we look at some of the greatest women behind fashion trends; women we often see on runways and on our favorite fashion channels bragging about their beauty and the apparels they are on.
Rachel Zoe
Stylist Rachel Zoe’s client list may read like a who’s who of Hollywood’s leading ladies–Cameron Diaz, Anne Hathaway and Demi Moore are just a few–but let’s face it, Zoe herself has become just as famous because of personal style. Zoe’s penchant for sky-high heels, vintage Grecian gowns and piled-on jewelry has made her a fashion icon. Her Bravo reality show The Rachel Zoe Project has given viewers a sampling of some of her winning outfit choices, and since her QVC fashion line launched last year, fans have been able to mimic her designer style for less.
Lauren Bush
A former fashion model, Lauren Bush (she has appeared in Tommy Hilfiger and Abercrombie & Fitch ads) is an eco-fashion trailblazer. She created a movement with her Feed Projects bags benefiting the U.N. World Food Programme and recently launched an eco-friendly dress line called Lauren Pierce, with a portion of all of the sales going to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Bush, who has made her career combining her love of fashion and philanthropy, always looks flawless whether she’s in a Ralph Lauren gown at the Metropolitan Costume Institute Gala or in jeans and a utilitarian vest on a trip for the U.N. in Uganda.
Beverly Johnson
Beverly Johnson made a name in 1974 as the first black woman to land on the cover of American Vogue. To date she has graced more than 500 magazine covers and has been nicknamed “the super girl next door.” At 57 Johnson is still making waves with her ladylike fashion choices, which have just the right amount of sex appeal.
Ivanka Trump
Think of Ivanka Trump, and her classic American style comes to mind. Trump says her style is “chic but doesn’t steal the show,” and she advises women to spend the most on what they will wear most often in their day-to-day lives. “Start by investing in pieces you know you will wear most often, especially during the day. I find that neutral colors work well for all-time wear.
Amy Smilovic
Amy Smilovic, the woman behind the fashion label Tibi, got into fashion design when she and her husband (both working at American Express at the time) were relocated to Hong Kong. When she learned she would be reporting to her husband in this new role, she decided she needed a change. Tibi was born in 1997 and is now a major label carried in stores like Saks and Bloomingdales. “I’m really a fantasy shopper,” says Smilovic. “It’s all about buying things that are reflective of where I am in the moment.”
