How to repair vintage furniture pin and dovetail joint?
I inherited some antique/vintage furniture from my great-grandmother. Over the years it was used by my younger brothers and is now destroyed. I want to keep the pieces (dresser, vanity w/mirror and bedside table) in the family for as long as possible but the drawers are not sturdy! They are put together using the “pin and dovetail” joint connection and when I pull the drawer out sometimes the front of the drawer comes off (embarrassing and time consuming). I painted the furniture a pretty chocolate color and got new knobs for it…….but how do i fix those pesky joints quickly, easily and correctly??
first remove all the old glue on the furniture. Now go to a hardware store and buy furniture glue, apply let dry over night and your back to having your drawers working good again.
This should work really well but you have to remove all that old glue before considering another. lite sanding might be the trick you’ll know when you look at it.
I too love old furniture and have some experience in re-finishing furniture.
