Old typewriter for jewelry
Many artisans have discovered the art of using old typewriter keys for jewelry creations as bracelets, necklaces and cufflinks. These vintage buttons are a nostalgic and good converstaion piece for those who wear. In fact, this jewelry is so popular that finding enough of these old keys to meet the demand can be difficult! So where to find them?
In the summer months, garden / Sales garage and the property is an excellent place to look. Taking a Saturday or Sunday to visit some such sales in general, can produce a crop or andtique typewriter or two with some nice touches on it at a good price. Do not be afraid to dusty or dirty looking! Keys of an old typewriter, are generally of high quality and even if the machine is broken and rusty keys are still in great shape. A little cleaning and you can find a good collection of old typewriter keys!
Another place is your local thrift stores. The prices here are almost always low, but finding a typewriter can take time. Most of these stores do not will appear rusty or broken. These are thrown out and limits their success in finding the key to the needs of their jewelry. However, if you live near one of these stores, stopping when you can only take 10 minutes and is worth a quick look, if you have time.
Craigslist is another place. CL, who always seems like a machine writing for the sale. Be prepared to wheel and deal! Most typewriters have a list price of jewelry, because they are in good condition. However, the people, I found a lot if you're willing to meet the cash and buy now!
The online auction houses like eBay are my favorites. The large variety, low prices and more choice. Unlike a garage sale, craigslist or a thrift store, these online auction houses have the machine to write together or just the keys! I usually go for just the keys and prefer ads with keyboards, not to be. This way I can have a right to manufacture jewelry, no time to cut or break a typewriter.
However, if I see an old typewriter with some nice touches of color or difficult to find the key stone, often to buy and dismantle the whole self because I can not keep pace with the demand for these keys. People seem to like the old function color key on your jewelry to write and not enough for everyone! Buy the typewriter together, can sometimes be more affordable, especially if you are in very poor conditions.
