I bought a vintage article …. Formaldehyde?

Hi, I just bought a projector and a sweet smell burned. Is formaldehyde? The agenda is the mid 50's and my other vintage cameras, I bought a smell similar to burning. I like Canon rangefinder, the seat felt like leather, but it's hard as plastic. Yet, the question is, are covered with old stories Formaldehyde?
