How can I get 200 years old vintage picture postcards valued and sold at the best price?

I have a collection of some 170 picture postcards ( both Black & White and colour) dating back to 1900s and late 1800s. Printed mostly in Europe & India, they showcase society and citylife of those times. Most of them are in good condition.I wish to sell them on internet, for which I require following help :

They can be of no value whatsoever, or be worth a goldmine. You say that you know these are valuable postcards, but you don’t say how you know that. Do you just “think” they are? Or do you “hope” they are?

You really don’t know until you have an appraisal of some sort done on them, by someone who is qualified to say so.
I would start at your local historical society. If you don’t have one locally, try your State society or National Historical Society. They may not know, but will be in a better position to tell you where you might go for an accurate answer. They may even have someone on staff who can assist you.

Second option is to contact someone at a college or university’s art/history department and try to obtain the same information. You need contacts first and foremost. Try to get a list of people who will at least understand and care about what you are talking about.

This may take some work, but unless you “know” their value, either individually or as a set, you really have no place to start to sell them.

Additionally, something like this is really worthless to me personally, but I’m not now nor have I ever been a buyer of such a postcard. Others are buyers. You need to get in front of those buyers, and E-Bay may not be your best avenue in that regard. So, one of the things for you to find out is who may want them, how do you contact that potential buyer, etc.

One final comment.
You may very well find out that one or two of the entire bunch are quite valuable to someone. The rest of them may be worthless trash. That’s OK. That one or two, when sold, might just make your day!
Also, you might find that copies of the postcards, or enlargements of them may be more valuable than the original as their may be important or interesting historical facts that raise a viewers eyebrow.

At least you’ll know their value in the marketplace and be content with your actions.
