What are the copyright rules on vintage stickers?
This is a bit of an odd question, but I want to purchase some vintage stickers from the 80′s and 90′s, and use them on packaging for jewellery I make and sell. My question is, would it be illegal to scan the stickers and print out my own? I would keep the original copyright logo and the artist’s name on it. I wouldn’t be selling them, they would just decorate packaging. Thanks!
Generally speaking, unauthorized copying of copyrighted works is copyright infringement. Whether you’re selling them, keeping the original copyright logo, or attributing the copyright holder is absolutely irrelevant.
If you plan on using another’s copyrighted material in your packaging, you might consider contacting the copyright holder for permission.
