Mailing Coins in the post abroad?
I’m really nervous about my letter I just sent from Michigan to Australia. I have a penpal who asked if I could send a penny, nickel, and 2 quarters. So I went ahead and went to the post office. The clerk was like “Are there coins inside this?” I replied “yes”. She gave me this form to fill out to say how much the value of coins were and to sign. I’ve been reading on here that you can’t send coins to another country without going through customs. Was the sheet I filled out for customs? I paid for the letter and everything. I’m scared it won’t send. I have some collectible vintage stamps I mailed along in the same letter (thats what I’m most worried about) If it did not get approved to send, would I get it mailed back to me> or is it going to take a LONG time to get to Australia going through Customs?
Customs should not care about your coins. They would have to shut down all their other business if they had to check every piece of metal entering the country.
The form you signed was to protect against a future claim by you that your coins were worth $millions.
One thing to remember is that a lot of money is stolen from the mail. One man in jail said that he stole over $40,000 in cash from his mail job before he was caught.
