How to Wear Vintage Clothing for Women
Since you are a fashion savvy woman you most likely have noticed one great trend that has emerged over the past few years; vintage clothing. But you can not just throw on any old piece of clothing and look great, below we will go through how to wear vintage clothing for women.
First, of course you need to have some vintage clothing articles to wear. Let’s assume you have scoured the local goodwill or thrift shops and found some funky pieces. Keep in mind that lots of clothing being made now have been inspired by the Vintage eras(1940-1980). This is a great option as it’s easier to find and can be more affordable than buying from a vintage specialty clothing store.
So how much vintage should you wear? It’s recommended by today’s stylists to wear vintage pieces sparingly or risk having a dated look. One vintage t-shirt paired with modern cut jeans or a ra-ra skirt from the 80′s with a v-neck top. So just like everything else in life your outfit will need to have a little balance.
If you are only shooting for authentic vintage pieces you will have to be ready to make some modifications to the pieces you find. Since finding a skirt or shirt you absolutely love in your size might be next to impossible you’ll have to be willing to hem or shorten the clothing. Also, authentic pieces will require a little more TLC as age and wear will be factors. Shopping on-line for vintage inspired clothing can be a good option as you will have thousands of choices from all over the world and you can still bring out that funky flare from the era.
Vintage jewellery can defiantly add some nostalgic glam to any outfit the key here again is to wear just enough to compliment your outfit. A necklace and earring set from the sixties with your favourite white t-shirt, jeans and a pair of vintage heels? Just use your imagination and friends for ideas.
Always ask for your friends opinions and take a minute to look yourself over in the mirror when first trying out vintage clothing. Check that the pieces fit correctly as the cut and shape of clothing has been evolving over the years. If you are wondering if you have put one too many vintage pieces on then you probably have, no worries just take one off or ask your trusted friends for their opinion.
Shopping for vintage clothing online can be a real time saver considering the amount of styles you can choose from just sitting at the computer. Plus, who doesn’t like getting a package in the mail!! Just check measurements carefully before ordering.
