How can I make a knitted jumper into a cardigan?

I bought a lovely vintage knitted jumper from a charity shop a while ago. I hardly ever wear it beacuse it’s really big, but I just thought it would look awesome as a cardigan. I’ve got a lot of sewing experience, but I’m scared that because it is knitted that it will start unravelling and fall apart as soon as I cut it. Any ideas anyone?

A knitted jumper is a sweater or blouse, so the bottom is finished.

Turn the jumper inside out and mark the center line.

Stitch grosgrain ribbon down both sides of the center line, turn to the outside and top stitch the grosgrain to hold it in place.
