Vintage Organ- Popping sound and smoke- fixable?

So I purchased this electric organ. It’s worth a lot of money and I absolutely love it!
I left it on for a while with a 1/4″-1/8″ converter in the headphone jack. I didn’t think this would be a problem, but apparently it was. I heard a loud pop, it sounded like a balloon, then there was smoke.
It turns on, but the headphone jack doesn’t work. There is an amplifier jack that works, but it’s significantly quieter.
I know it would be hard to say without looking at it, but I was wondering if It might work if I simply replace the headphone jack?

It might be fixable but not by you. The pop was an electronic component blowing up, likely because you mismatched the impedance that the jack you plugged into was expecting. Fixing this requires specialized knowledge and specialized equipment.

Take it to an electronics shop that specializes in musical instrument repair. Do not take it to a TV repair shop or a stereo repair shop. For a nominal fee, probably around $35, the tech will be able to tell you what’s wrong and how much it will cost to fix. Most shops will apply this bench fee to the repair if you go ahead with the repair.

The bottom line is that you need to find out what broke, whether replacement parts are available, how much they cost, and how difficult it is to replace the broken stuff.

Be warned that if an integrated circuit blew up, it could be very expensive to repair. It’s common these days for an electronic keyboard to consist of just a few proprietary chips that are available only from the manufacturer at an exhorbitant price. Same if its a very old piece that requires a hard-to-find vintage part. If the keyboard is actually valuable for its vintage, be prepared to look hard and spend money for an exact replacement part if you don’t want to tank the value of the instrument.

The fact that you have some output indicates that you probably haven’t blown up the main chip but some output amp that probably won’t be that exotic or expensive. But you never know till you take it to a qualified tech for an estimate.

If the estimate sounds too high, get a couple others. You might also inquire amongst your local music community for referrals to find out who knows what they’re doing and who might damage your instrument further.
