What is the value of this vintage book?
i own a book called “A Noble Lord by Mrs.southworth” that is exactly how the cover reads. it is a hardcover green book with the picture of a woman on it. i am guessing its within the first editions because on the inside it has a signature on it with a date july 12- 1912. it is in very good condition but can’t find out little about this book. i tried abebooks but nothing comes up
This title was published first in 1872. You have a cheap reprint from 40 years later. I suspect it is an A. L. Burt production, but to be sure I would have to see the book. Look on the title page to see who the publisher is.
Mrs. Southworth was very prolific. She wrote a lot of books but is not much read or heard about today. Book has only minimal value as a period piece. If it is in perfect shape, even if a reprint (not necessarily A. L. Burt), it is probably worth around $10.00. If it is not–if the binding is loose, the pages faded, the corners not crisp–it is a nice reminder of the past but has no market value.
