Vintage Diamond Engagement Rings

Recycling an old engagement ring…?
Ok… my boyfriend was engaged to a girl a few years ago, but it ended a long time ago. He kept the ring and has had no luck in selling it. Lately we have been talking about getting engaged, and where I would by no means accept that ring (nor would he even consider giving it to me), I’ve been thinking its a waste of a perfectly good diamond and chunk of platinum. Do you think it would be possilbe to get the diamond reshaped, hopefully into two pieces, add a ruby and melt down the platinum in order to create a new ring???
And if its possilble, is it acceptable? For me its sort of the same of buying a vintage ring from a shop, and if it means I get a great ring for a fraction of the price is there a problem with that??
Please help!
It is definitly possible! (I know this because my brother in law is a jewler) and I think it would be acceptable. I know that it would definitly save you money, and if it a new ring being re-created (even if it is from an ex), that makes it a whole new ring, perfectly different and special for you…
If you don’t have a problem, I’d say go for it!
Good luck, and congrats if there’s a soon-to-be engagement.
