How do I paint a desk to give it a vintage look?

I have a solid wood desk I want to paint white, but I want it it have like a vintage look to it. Kinda like these candle holders:

that’s called shabby sheek or something like that, anyways paint your desk white or off white let dry then sand the edges with 120 -150 grit and any ornate details to expose the natural wood then spray clear deft over the raw wood to richen the edges up
