How much can I expect to sell my vintage late 50′s/early 60′s mink stole for at a vintage clothing store?
The stole belonged to the previous owner of my condo, and she has since deceased. It still has its head and paws attached. (I guess it’s supposed to, I don’t know!) Moving right along, I’d appreciate your thoughts, especially if you buy and sell this type of stuff. Thanks!
The market for furs collapsed about ten years ago. There is little market for used furs, some vintage stores can’t even give away furs. Having said that, there are some furs, styles and designers that are highly prized and sought after. You will need to consult an experienced furrier to get an accurate estimate of value as it’s impossible to guess a value sight unseen. Be aware that there are some furs from endangered animals that are illegal to own, they aren’t even supposed to be sold through the vintage market. If it’s a tiger, lynx, or other endangered feline then you can’t sell it, and you are not even supposed to own these!
You might want to some preliminary research through websites that specialize in used furs and vintage furs, they have lists of for-sale furs and lists of “wanted” furs for particular clients. You can see if yours compares to those available there. Just enter used furs into the search box. Also you can look on e-bay to see what furs are selling for there. Don’t be too disappointed, if it a stole then it’s likely not worth much at all.
