What is a good quality hi-fi vintage dish?

I enter the library and listening to vinyl but do not know where start. I would buy a beautiful time in 1970, a time when stereo off eBay, but no idea what to look for. Is there an affordable classic that really put show the rich sound of vinyl? I'd rather not spend over $ 400.
