Why Investing in Vintage Jewelry

Go to most any vintage web site that has various categories and you are sure to see that vintage jewelry is the most in demand. Collectors, dealers, and people in general enjoy it. If you go to a modern shop or chain store today, and browse the vintage jewelry section , you will soon understand why. Most modern jewelry is not only mass produced, but the materials used are often bad quality and the price is usually for the company’s overhead cost, not for the quality of the jewelry.

The best vintage jewelry to invest in is signed designer jewelry. If you pay attention to the materials used and the construction of the piece, you can buy a fine piece of unsigned vintage jewelry, and at a bargain price. If you are looking at a costly piece, it is best to know the seller’s reputation, rather than buy from someone who may not know jewelry much better than you do.

I have always loved vintage and antique jewelry. I’d rather spend for the big ‘bling’ than for the real thing. To enhance my jewelry, I wear several pieces at once. A beaded necklace looks wonderful with layers of chains. Bangle bracelets will have add that special touch when worn with a rhinestone bracelet, and they will not slide up and down your wrist as much. Huge brooches are not just to wear as a brooch, they look fabulous worn as a pendant. You can find brooch converters on the internet. I also enjoy vintage jewelry for the art it is. I enjoy displaying some of my jewelry in my shop listings in what I often refer to as “my secret jewelry room” It’s actually my dressing room that also has my vanity, and actual display cases and china cabinets filled with jewelry and other jewelry related items such as displays. Glass plates, glass goblets and compotes make wonderful displays for jewelry, and colored glass trays with a few brooches look lovely. Easel back picture frames with a mirror instead of a picture is perfect to drape a necklace over the front, and lovely fabric open boxes with multiple chains spilling are make great displays.

Using unusual display items, make a lovely way to enjoy your jewelry when you are not wearing it. Vintage jewelry is a good investment. If you find you rarely wear a piece and you need a little cash to buy something else that has caught your eye, you can sell the piece you don’t wear, and often make a profit. Be sure to wear your vintage jewelry, after all, you deserve to enjoy the beautiful colors be found in the huge world of vintage jewelry.
