is using a Birthstone ring as an Engagement ring acceptable?
my boyfriend and i are getting engaged next month on my birthday after 2 and a half years 
we went ring shopping today, I like vintage pieces so official engagement rings aren’t really my thing.
I wanted a gold ring with with a deep-red stone as it’s mine and his favourite colour, I found the perfect ring!! but it’s the birthstone for january (which isn’t my birth month). this personally doesn’t matter to me or him and my mind is made up, but I’m wondering if the fact it’s another months birthstone and the fact it isn’t an actual engagement ring will make our engagement any less official?

I think that it’s great that you are doing what you want, not sticking with tradition. It’s your ring…and you should make it special for you! Having a ring isn’t even what makes an engagement official. I never had an engagement ring and my wedding ring is just a simple heart ring that my husband gave me. If the love is there, the ring should be just whatever makes you feel special. That’s MY opinion.
