3 Reason Small Travel Trailers Are Ideal For Retirees
While some people believe that bigger is better when it comes to travel trailers, small travel trailers have some distinct advantages. They are easier to park, ideal for retirees, and a lot cheaper.
Small trailers are easy to park
Anyone who has ever tried to park an RV knows that the bigger the RV, the harder it is to park. We are just not used to backing up something so big. The only people who think it is a breeze to back up a 40-foot fifth wheel are long-haul truck drivers.
While anyone can get used to backing up a monster of a travel trailer, why would you bother if you can comfortably live in a smaller one? Small trailers are just easier to park, not to mention it is easier to find a campsite for small ones.
Ideal for retirees
An empty nest has some advantages. Retirees no longer need a big RV to haul around their kids and their kid’s friends. They can switch to a smaller travel trailer, which is plenty big for two adults and still has room for the occasional family member that wants to go along for the ride.
Instead of having a large motor home with all these extra beds that remain empty, retirees can opt for a smaller model that only has one extra bed. One extra bed is plenty for an occasional grandchild pick up, or for the couple that wants to join in on the vacation. Sure, it is a tad more cramped when extra people go along, but how often does that happen?
Smaller Equals Cheaper
Besides the obvious price difference between buying a small trailer, toy hauler, or pop-up, you will find the operating expenses are far less than that of a fifth wheel.
- Cheaper Gas – Since the smaller RVs are more aerodynamic and weight far less than their larger counterparts, your car will get better gas mileage when pulling these guys. Better miles per gallon means less money spent at the pump. Less money at the pump translates into more money for fun.
- Cheaper to Maintain – Cleaning a RV is not always the easiest thing to do. Many people find that it is easier to take a small RV to a do-it-yourself carwash than a larger Class A or fifth wheel; you don’t need a professional RV car wash. Since a small trailer is only 20 feet long, it takes half the time and quarters to get a good wash.
The only thing cheaper than a small travel trailer is the camper. Campers are normally affixed to the bed of a truck and are quite small. Somehow, they do pack in all the accessories you need to travel comfortably.
