If I start a website that sells clothes using pop culture icons, how do I pay royalties?

Basically, if I made a shirt with the monkey symbol from 12 Monkey’s on it, who am I supposed to pay royalties to. I see these kinds of clothing all the time at Hot Topic, so I know it is being done. I don’t want to be sued.

You first have to get their permission. You would contact their business agent and put your proposal to them, including how much you are willing to pay in royalties. If they accept, you will enter into a contract with them, which will include the process for paying the fees.
