Andy Warhol painted consumers familiar elements such as Coca Cola bottles or cans in the 1960's, the earliest examples first shown in New York in 1962. When Asked why he painted soup cans, Warhol replied, "We used to drink. We used to have the same dinner every day." By using screen printing, Warhol could simulate the mechanical effect of the source to the extent that the resulting image appears almost raw.
