Why are Aussie hat people considered more intelligent than cowboy hat people?
I’m a hat guy, not least because our UV levels here in New Zealand make it a pretty good idea to wear one with a wide brim.
Strangely though, there is no such thing attributable to New Zealand culture.
All we have is beanies and little tweed hats that make you look like a retired accountant from Lancashire.
So I figure the world is my oyster when it comes to choosing hats, and I’ve been looking around carefully and concluded that cowboy hats are considered the domain of the IQ-challenged, if public perception is anything to go by.
Why is that?
Did Crocodile Dundee have much of an intellectual edge over John Wayne?
I guess it depends where you live. Here in Eastcoastia USA cowboy hats means you’re some rich guy from Texas, or some piney South Jerseyite hanging out in Cowtown, or maybe a Dentist with a solo practice.
Almost nobody wears the Aussie caps, but they’d be more a mark of some weird energy like a meth dealer, or street bum or something.
Here men who wear hats wear baseball caps, and if something else — an Irish style walking cap. Sometimes an actual fedora.
