How many boxes of JOHN WAYNE COMMEMERATIVE 32-40 AMMUNITION were produced?

This collectible ammo was produced in a limited supply. Just curious
what the limit was…

I don’t think anybody knows that number except the people at Winchester. The round was made to commemorate the John Wayne rifles they produced in 1981.

49,000 John Wayne 32-40 rifles were made in 1981, and then another 1000 were made special, which had a gold plated receiver, deeper engraving and better quality wood. This was the “DUKE” model.

So, if you consider that 50,000 rifles were made, you could speculate that a box of ammo came with each gun, and each box had 5 rounds, you’re looking at a minimum 250,000 rounds produced. That’s just a guess. I would imagine they made at least 1 box of ammo for each rifle.
