Glamour Images’ Recipe For Success: Sex Sells
In my teenage years I used to be surprised at the enormous amount of magazines with Glamour Photographs on their front covers, which literally piled up in the aisles of stores. Not only fresh issues of Vogue, Maxim and Cosmopolitan boasted such pictures, but even magazines on the subject of Men’s Health often had some ladies on covers showing off their bodies. I and my mates inevitably ended up looking at those attractive magazine covers and pondering why such images would decorate Men’s magazines. Later on I felt quite surprised at how quickly such periodicals would sell – they were literally creamed off by the customers. Having become more proficient in advertising matters and in glamour photography, I seem to have discovered the key to this popularity. Sex plays an important role in advertisement, therefore, this photographers aspiring to enter the field of Artistic Glamour Photography should take it as a mantra for success. A magazine cover has an important role in promoting a magazine and the success in magazine sales lies on how glamorous the magazine cover is because if the cover is irresistible, it will be more likely to be a hit among men and women alike women pay for the cover because they are inspired by the cover and they want to emulate the poster character and try be as glamorous, and men pay for it because they cannot resist her, and thats why we say sex sells.
Until recently most women were not very positive in their evaluation of such sexy and glamorous pictures decorating magazine covers. Later on, due to major achievements in the field of media and popular culture, many women embraced more enthusiastic attitude to glamour images. Being glamour photographers, we should concentrate on making our women pictures artistic, appealing and sensual. A magazine which has an appealing woman on its cover is more likely to succeed on the market, as glamour images are popular with a vast majority of people, regardless of social status and gender. All of us can recall how scandalous yet increasingly popular the picture of Miley Cyrus became, when she was depicted for the cover Vogue, generating massive response from all over the world. That is why we fellow photographers need to always remember that “sex sells”, and use this simple truth when creating our own attractive glamour pictures.
