Classics Of Philosophy

What’s the best/most effective way to read a work of philosophy, and take notes on it?
I need to take notes on it. Should I read each page once through then go through a second time and take notes? Take notes the first time I read the page, which interrupts a lot?
I feel like I’m taking a LOT of time to get through these works (Kuhn, Hume, all the great classics…)
I would most appreciate comments from Grad students OF PHILOSOPHY…
Get a book on the philosophical history of the era. If you don’t understand what problems the philosopher is tying to answer you won’t understand what he is saying. Sometimes that doesn’t even help as in the case of someone like Kant or Hegel. In those cases try to find a translation that has a good introduction to the edition. This, at least, gives you a chance to understand the main points. Your note taking can then have a direction since you will focus on these main problems.
