Classical Mythology

classical mythology
is cherokee mythology primeval or classical?

well im sorry if this question is so wrong, but it’s what the teacher asked, so i’d appreciate it if anyone had any suggestions!

Classical mythology usually refers to those myths of Greek or Roman origin. Cherokee mythology would primeval. I don’t know how familiar you are with Native American mythology, but their myths are primarily creation myths. The Cherokees believed that in the beginning there was only water. The Earth as we know it wasn’t discovered until a curious little water beetle named Dayunisi decided to see what was below the water. He ventured beneath the surface, bringing up chunks of mud each time he resurfaced, until eventually there was so much mud that the Earth was formed.

There is more to the myth, but this gives you an example of why Cherokee mythology (Native American myths in general) are considered primeval myths. Because they pertain to the earliest stages of the world and life.
