It’s the Nokia 6700 Classic Gold Edition.
It’s a head tuner alright. The Nokia 6700 is a fine looking slim and sexy phone that’s already a head turning classic to start with. Put in some bling, and you have one that really hard to overlook. If you want a real status symbol or just love the feel of metal in your hands, this one is for you.
Targeting the Social Conscious Crowd
Nokia didn’t mince words to admit that it’s aiming to make a social statement with its overdressed handset. This is not the first time they took a pedestrian handset among their stable of fine mobile phones and housed it in a more fashionable case. This time around, it’s in 18kgold. No, it’s not solid gold, it’s just plated, but it can really impress. That’s what Nokia admitted, they want a mobile that can impress not only with its looks but also price point.

The new handset features something new to distinguish it from its lowlier former self – a full metal navigational key mat and exclusive wallpapers. Apart form that, it’s your basic Nokia 6700 Classic.
The Gold Nokia 6700 classic is still the same Symbian S40 6th Edition quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE on 2G and a tri band UMTS/3G with HSDPA/HSDPA data connectivity. You get the same 2.2” TFT LCD display with QVGA resolution and 16 million colors, accelerometer and ambient light sensor.
There’s a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with 4X digital zoom, LED flash and VGA video recording at 15fps. Its multimedia functions kicks of with the same capable media players that play all the popular audio and video file formats. There’s stereo FM radio with RDS, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR and A2DP, noise cancellation features, micro US 2.0 and a built-in GPS receiver.
It has the usual microSD slot that can use up to 16 GB of external memory to augment its modest170MB internal memory. Its BL-6Q3 970mAh battery when fully charged can give the same 5 hours of GSM talk times, 20 hours of continuous music playback time and a standby time of 12 days.

The Nokia 6700 Classic Gold Edition is expected to reach European markets in the first quarter of the New Year with an estimated SIM-free price of €370 ($550) well before the usual taxes and subsidies. Not really a hefty price on its own when compared to other high end smartphones. But when you’re getting just a modest candybar handset underneath all that glitter, one wonders whether you’re buying the case more than the phone.
