Please give recommendations for quality contemporary Christian rock music.?
I find the vast, vast, vast majority of CCM to be almost offensive in its shallowness. Most songs are about how I FEEL rather than about the Lord. Petra was far better than most in this regard, but CCM bands like that are the exception rather than the rule. So I’m looking for some good CCM bands with serious, thought-provoking lyrics, with a solid classic rock sound, with power chords and guitar solos and such, but without the grunge-flavoring and/or rap influence that’s polluted modern rock since the 90s. If it helps, my favorite rock bands are Heart, Foreigner, Boston, old REO Speedwagon (pre-1981, when they used to be a rock band), Bad Company, etc.
Hey foryeshua, Pastor Brad here. First–thanks for raising this question. I’m sure you’ll receive a boat load of response! So much of this is very subjective. Some people are wired up by God to be “feelers”, I.e. they connect with God primarily through their heart. While others are very head oriented and really value a strong Bible-based lyric. Having said that, I will suggest a couple artist that I believe are very Christ-centered, hard rocking and Bible-centered in their lyrics.
Since you and I both seem to come from the same generation of old-school rock–I would encourage you to check out:
Bloodgood, Saint, Barren Cross, Whitecross, Idle Cure, X-sinner You can type any of those names into a search engine along with the words “Christian rock” and you’ll find them.
