Classic French Cooking

classic french cooking
what are some of the more classic cookbooks i should have?

i want to get a collection going of the more classic cookbooks, you know kitchen standards i have two already: Betty Crockers’ new picture cookbook, circa 1950 and Julia Child’s “Mastering the art of french cooking vol. 1″ (I am not some master cook or anything, I am beginner/moderate level).

can somebody name some more like these? ty.

Joy of Cooking is a must, and the 1970s-era edition is the best of them. I have 3 editions and that one is the most useful. Great for a beginner or an experienced cook. I also like the New York Times Cookbook, not a lot of advice in that one but many recipes, and Marcella Hazan’s Classic Italian Cookbook is very good
