Art Deco Eagle Pewter Ashtray?
I inherited an old (probably 1940′s) ashtray that has an art deco stylized pewter eagle attached to a black glass base, which serves as the ashtray. I think it could be a souvenir my great grandmother got at the 1939 World’s Fair. I’m sure these ashtrays were lined up at the souvenir rack much like Mickey Mouse drinking glasses are lined up at Disneyland. My question is, does anyone know if 1940′s art deco pieces are copyrighted? Would the artist (or their family) still hold the copyright after all these years? What’s the statute of limitations on old art pieces, even if they are just souvenirs.

The F 10′s the Chinese bought from the Russians were copy righted too, that did not stop them from buying a few F 10′s, reverse engineering them, producing J 11′s and competing and winning market share from the Russians.
Today, China sells more J 11′s than Russia sells F 10′s.
