Who painted this picture?
The portrait is painted in the Mannerist style of the late High Renaissance, exhibiting the classic features of the elongated fingers and arms and whitish hue of the skin. The subject of the painting is an aristocratic woman, dressed in red and holding a nude baby around the age of one year. The infant is holding up a globe. The portrait appears to be done in the style of Bronzino, but it could be the work of a number of artists.
The question of the identity of the artist has been bugging me for a long time. I remember having seen the painting both on a slide and in an art book. However, I cannot locate it again, though I have tried to do so several times.
The picture appears to be secular in subject matter, at least on the surface. It only depicts two human figures. The infant or child is completely nude.
Apparently what you’re looking for is “Holy Family with St. Anne and the Infant St. John”
It was painted by Andrea del Sarto (Andrea d’Agnolo).
