Art Deco Ring Setting

Need advice on picking an engagement ring?

My boyfriend and I are in the process of picking out an engagement ring. We have found a beautiful diamond, which is a little more than a carat. My confusion comes from which setting to choose.

The first one is a classic six prong white gold solitaire setting. I like the simplicity, the fact that it is exactly in our budget, and the fact that it is classic and can go with a number of wedding rings.

The other is totally different. It is a platinum band with 18K yellow gold scroll work under the central stone and the two side diamonds (which are pear shaped). There is also one teeny diamond in either side of the scroll work that can be seen from the sides, but not looking down on the ring. It is very Victorian or maybe art deco, I don’t know, it is certainly a unique ring and I find it really appealing, even though I am usually more of a simple jewelry person. It is more than we had thought to spend, but it is an incredible deal. And we can swing it.

Any ideas?

If you have to answer in less than a second–what would you say–go now!

Things to consider…

1) Will the trendy one not be as cool over time?
2) Will you regret not picking the platinum band?

Also remember, you can always buy more rings later and wear them on your ring finger–lots of people have several rings once they get older.
